LAUREN MERCADO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a freshman right-hander from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 12 through Sunday, March 18

Mercado pitched in four of the team?s six games last week, saving her best game for last by throwing a five-inning no-hitter in a win over Calvin College. Mercado went 2-2 overall last week, but posted a miniscule ERA of just 0.45, yielding just one earned run in 15.2 innings of action. She struck out 23 batters and walked just six over the week, throwing two complete-game shutouts.

Against Calvin, Mercado struck out 12 batters for the 12th no-hitter in Trinity history. She also had two hits and three RBI to aid the Tiger offense in the win. Mercado gave up just five total hits in 15.2 innings over the past week, holding the opposition to a .094 batting average.

For the season, Mercado is 7-4 with an ERA of 2.16, throwing 64.2 innings in her 11 appearances. Mercado has allowed just 20 earned runs this season, throwing three shutouts. She leads the team with 55 strikeouts this season, and opponents are hitting just .212 against the first-year player.
