JOHN JACOB OF JOHNSON & WALES UNIVERSITY, a senior from Aurora, Ohio, has been named the SCAC Men’s Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12.
Jacob posted a school-record 8K time of 26:14.5 at Saturday's Fort Hays State Tiger Open. He finished 13th overall in a field of 131 runners in the Black Division race. Jacob's time broke Alberto Rodriguez's previous program record of 26:15.6.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore RJ Navarro of Austin College won his third straight race and in doing so helped the 'Roos to their third win in a row at the East Texas Baptist Tiger Invitational on Friday. Navarro won the meet in record breaking fashion, setting a new Austin College mark in the 8K with a time of 26:53.3, more than a minute faster than his previous best time at that distance. Sophomore Oscar Padilla of St. Thomas was the first Celt across the finish line in a dual meet against NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M. Padilla finished the 8K race in a time of 29:22.01. Freshman Max Saliman of Colorado College ran in a field of 138 runners at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open, finishing 67th among primarily NCAA Division I and II runners. Saliman ran a personal best of 26:55.5 for the 8K (old PR was 29:34) while leading the team to a 10th place finish.
