TONY CALDERON OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., has been named the SCAC Men’s Runner of the Week for meets ran Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5.
Calderon finished in 14th among 276 runners at the Division III Pre-National meet in Louisville, Ky. Calderon ran a 24:49 for the 8K which was a PR for him and the fastest time run in the SCAC this year. It also helped the CC men's team place 18th out of 38 schools at the meet.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore RJ Navarro of Austin College won his second consecutive meet, and in doing so also helped the 'Roos win the UD Invitational on Saturday. Navarro had a time of 16:35.1, which was more than 42 seconds faster than the second place finisher at the meet. Freshman Thomas Lagarde of Dallas posted a third place individual finish at the Crusaders' home meet. He finished the 5K course in a time of 17:36.7 to grab his second top-three finish of the season. Freshman Noah Dennis of Southwestern placed 83 out of 346 runners at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival 8K. He finished with a time of 27:23 and was the third-fastest Division III runner in the race. Sophomore Oscar Padilla of St. Thomas was the first Celt across the finish line at the Our Lady of the Lake Invitational on Saturday. Padilla finished the 8K course in a time of 28:05.2, good for sixth place overall. Junior Henry Bellow of Trinity led the Tigers at this weekend's Chile Pepper Festival in Arkansas, earning an 11th-place finish individually. Bellow finished with a new personal-best time of 25:57.2, competing against mostly non-Division I runners.
