JACE AKAGI-OKUMA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year from Mililiani, Hawaii, has been named the SCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Sunday, March 18th.
Akagi-Okuma led the #15 Trinity men's tennis team to a 3-2 Spring Break road trip in California last week.
Akagi-Okuma went 4-1 in line four singles play last week, falling only to #14 Pomona-Pitzer. Among the victories were wins against three nationally-ranked teams that included #5 Wesleyan and #25 Case Western Reserve.
This season, Akagi-Okuma is 7-8 overall in singles, improving his #4 singles record to 6-6 on the year.
Other outstandings performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Preston Spivey of Austin College went 1-1 at line six singles, with his victory over Linfield clinching the match for Austin College after it was square at 4-4. Junior Christian Kitchen of Colorado College posted a perfect 3-0 singles record and helped the Tigers to a 2-1 record in their first three matches to open their 2018 spring break trip in Orlando, Fla. Junior Eric Wendt of Texas Lutheran University went 3-0 for the weekend in games played against LeTourneau, Centenary College, and Louisiana College.
