GRANT GIDEON OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior from San Angelo, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played through Sunday, March 4th.
Gideon went 2-0 last week, winning in the second line against Concordia University (TX) and East Texas Baptist.
In his first match of the week, Gideon defeated Adam Compton of Concordia 6-1, 7-6(3).
Against ETBU, Gideon was up 5-2 in the first set before eventually losing it 16-14 in the first set tiebreaker. He bounced back to take the second set 6-0 and pulled out the third set on a 10-point tiebreaker, 10-8.
Other outstandings performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Andres Padilla of Austin College had a strong weekend for the 'Roos, going 2-0 at line five singles with wins against UT-Dallas and LeTourneau. Freshman Corey Nobles of Centenary College went 2-0 last week, earning a three-set win over Belhaven and winning 6-1, 6-1 against Tougaloo. Senior Nick Pena of Schreiner University went 2-0 last week to remain undefeated in singles play.
