DIEGO RODRIGUEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a freshman midfielder from Phoenix, Arizona, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 15th.
Rodriguez scored in both of Austin College’s games over the weekend to help the ‘Roos go 2-0, tallying in a 3-2 win over Hendrix and again in the team’s 2-0 win against Rhodes. It marked the first two goals of his career at AC and has helped the ‘Roos post a record of 3-0-1 since their 0-2 start. All three of Rodriguez’s shot attempts were put on target over the course of the weekend in Memphis.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Andres Bautista of Centenary scored twice and added as assist as the Gents opened up their 2019 campaign with a 1-2 record. Bautista score the lone goal in the Gents, 1-0, victory over LeTourneau to open the year and added a goal and an assist in a loss to Colorado College. Junior midfielder Will Mallory of Colorado College recorded a goal and added two assists in the Tigers 5-4 victory over Centenary last Friday. The goal was the fourth game-winner of his career. Freshman midfielder Coby Zazueta of Johnson & Wales scored twice to lift the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over Centenary and secure the first win of the season for JWU. Sophomore forward Seth Holzmann of Southwestern drew the game-winning penalty and converted on the kick in overtime to give the Pirates a 2-1 win over Texas Lutheran. Senior forward Heiko Leinweber of St. Thomas assisted on Carlos Marquez’ match-winning goal as St. Thomas claimed a 3-1 victory at Johnson & Wales on Friday. Junior midfielder Andrea Codispoti of Trinity buried a late penalty kick to bring the Tigers level with Christopher Newport in Trinity’s only game this week, which eventually ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie.
