Garrison Van Houten, Southwestern University, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 2)
GARRISON VAN HOUTEN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Port Neches, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, September 8th. 
 
Van Houten played a vital role in helping the Pirates secure their first two wins of the season, scoring tow game-winning goals last week off of set pieces. The junior scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Hutson-Tillotson on the road last Friday and scored his second game-winner in the 69th minute of a 2-1 win against East Texas Baptist as both goals came in the second half of play. Van Houten entered the week with one career goal at Southwestern.
 
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman forward Cesar Escobar of Austin College had a strong weekend as the ‘Roos went 1-0-1, scoring the game-winner in a 2-0 victory at East Texas Baptist, and assisting on the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw at LeTourneau. Junior forward Jackson Silverstein of Colorado College scored the Tigers goal in a 2-1 loss at Kenyon, taking the CC lead for points early in the year now with six. Junior Emad Bashir-Mohammed of Johnson & Wales scored his first goal of the year in a loss to UTD last Friday. Senior Heiko Leinweber of St. Thomas score his first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Our Lady of the Lake last Wednesday. Sophomore forward Luis Green of Texas Lutheran scored three goals in the 4-0 road win over Howard Payne on Friday. It marked the second hat-trick of Green’s career.
