Roman Cano, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 3)
ROMAN CANO OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Plano, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Monday, September 10th to Sunday, September 16th.

Cano led Trinity to a pair of wins to open SCAC play this weekend, scoring shutouts over both Austin College and Centenary College. Cano and the Tiger defense yielded no goals on just six total shots in 180 minutes of action this weekend, including just two total on-target shots.

In Sunday’s win over Centenary, Cano scored a goal with just 1:10 remaining in the first half to give Trinity a 2-0 advantage at the half, then assisted on the next goal that came just 1:32 into the second period. This season, Cano has recorded a pair of assists and Sunday marked his first goal with the Tigers. He has also started in four of Trinity’s five games on the year and has contributed to Trinity’s three consecutive shutout victories.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior goalkeeper Keller Mochel of Colorado College recorded his fourth clean sheets this season and the seven for his career with Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Johnson & Wales. Senior goalkeeper Brandon Anselmi of Schreiner helped the Mountaineers to a 1-1-1 record in SCAC play last week. Anselmi collected 17 saves in three games including an eight save performance to hold on to the 1-1 draw against Austin College. Sophomore defender Brendan Dauth of Southwestern recorded a game-winning goal against Schreiner to open conference play and was a big part of a defense that allowed only one goal in nearly 300 minutes of soccer.
