KELLER MOCHEL OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper from Carpinteria, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Tuesday, September 4th to Sunday, September 9th.
Mochel recorded a pair of shutouts on the road as CC improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SCAC with 1-0 victories at Austin College and the University of Dallas. He made one save in each half of Friday’s victory over the Roos and did the same on Sunday against the Crusaders.
Mochel has not conceded a goal since the University of Texas-Dallas scored on a penalty kick goal in the second overtime of the season opener. The junior goalkeeper now has three clean sheets this season and improved his career total to six in just seven starts. Mochel lowered his season goals-against average to 0.71 and improved his save percentage to .842.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior goalie Joseph Khalaf of Austin College had a strong weekend, surrendering just one goal in 180 minutes in the net and earning a shutout in a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales. Khalaf made five saves on the weekend. Junior goalkeeper Alexis Araiza of Johnson & Wales recorded 10 saves in a losing effort against Austin College last weekend. Sophomore defender Garrison Van Houten of Southwestern led the Pirates defensive unit that allowed just one goal last week and chipped in offensively scoring the game-winning goal against Concordia-Texas. Junior goalie Blake Lieberman of Trinity led the Tigers to their first shutout of the season in the team’s only game last week, which was a 3-0 victory over Hardin-Simmons. Lieberman recorded five saves in the shutout, minding the net for all 90 minutes of action for the Tigers. He had three of those five saves in the second half, including back-to-back saves in the 61st minute that kept the score 2-0 at the time.
