Michael Holland, Austin College, Player of the Week (Week 10)

MICHAEL HOLLAND OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a junior forward from Waxahachie, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 13 through Sunday, January 19.

Holland averaged 32.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and 1.0 blocks over the weekend. In the pair of games Holland shoot 61 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range, and 82.4 percent from the free throw line. Holland matched his career high with 30 in the ‘Roos loss to Southwestern and then poured in a career best 35 and grabbed a career high 17 rebounds in the 96-92 victory over Texas Lutheran. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Cedric Harris of Centenary led the Gents in scoring, as he poured in 23 points in 35 minutes on Saturday at St. Thomas. Harris has reached double figures in all 16 of Centenary’s games this season. Senior Cooxooeii Black of Colorado College averaged 25.0 points and 11 rebounds per game during a pair of road contests. In Friday’s loss at Schreiner, Black scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. On Saturday at Trinity, he poured in a season-high 30 points and completed his seventh double-double of the season with a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Dustin Mathis of Dallas averaged 16.5 points over two SCAC games. In Saturday’s victory at Southwestern, the junior guard poured 21 points. Mathis added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals overall. Senior Kyle Howard of Southwestern averaged 22 points per game on an efficient 62.6 percent shooting. Howard also averaged 3 steals and a block over the weekend. Sophomore Luke Stuart of Trinity led the Tigers to a pair of SCAC wins at home last weekend, averaging 18.5 points per game in his first two career starts at home, scoring double digits in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. He had a career-high 21 points against JWU on Friday followed with 16 points against Colorado College, while adding four assists and a steal. Senior Nathan Thormaehlen of St. Thomas recorded his fourth double-double of the season as the Celts raced to a 94-68 victory over Centenary on UST’s Homecoming Saturday. Senior Paul Wells of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a weekend sweep of Colorado College and Johnson & Wales by averaging 20 points per game and an 81.3 shooting percentage. Junior Sebastian Andrade of Texas Lutheran averaged 27.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in the Bulldogs’ 1-1 week in the SCAC. Andrade scored a career-best 36 points in Saturday’s loss to Austin College. In the win over Dallas, Andrade scored 18.
