SHANE HODGE OF AUSTIN
COLLEGE, a 5-10,
170-pound senior defensive back from Perryton, Texas, has been
selected the SCAC Football Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for
games played Saturday, September 27th.
Hodge played a huge role in special
teams, helping the 'Roos pick up a huge win over Howard Payne,
19-16.
With the 'Roos up 19-16 with four seconds to play, the Yellow
Jackets lined up for a 45-yard field goal to tie
it.Hodge rushed off the edge and got a piece
of the kick to end the game and give the 'Roos their second win of
the season.
In addition to the blocked
kick, Hodge had two tackles and an
interception as the 'Roos defense shut down Howard Payne's high
powered offense in the second half.
Sophomore punter Chadd Brown of Texas Lutheran punted three times for 146 yards, with an average of 48.7 per kick. He put all three punts inside the opponents 20-yard line. Senior wide receiver Matthew Kennemer of Trinity led Trinity with more than 200 all-purpose yards in the team’s loss to 16th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday. Kennemer had five kick returns for 181 yards in the game, finishing with the second-highest total in school history for a single game. Southwestern did not nominate anyone.
