  • Eight From SCAC Earn NFF 2009 Hampshire Honor Society Membership

    DALLAS, Texas - Recently, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced the members of the 2009 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better. A total of 564 players from 266 schools qualified for membership in the society's third year, including eight from the SCAC.

    GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Matt Walker, head football and baseball coach at DePauw and 1999 graduate of the University, served as the honorary starter of today's practice session for the Indianapolis 500. Walker waved the green flag to open practice at noon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after taking a pace car ride around the oval with three-time Indy 500 winner Johnny Rutherford.

    SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College campus remains in a state of shock over the news of a tragedy that occurred on campus early Monday evening. Zachary Swirczynski, a 20-year-old sophomore from Muenster, Texas, collapsed while playing a game of pick-up basketball with his football teammates at the Thomas R. Williams Intramural Complex, an outdoor facility on the west edge of campus.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) named a record 776 student-athletes to the 2008 SCAC Fall Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday. This year's total eclipsed last year's previous record of 715 student-athletes. Since its inception in the fall of 1997, over 13,700 student-athletes have achieved recognition for their contributions in the classroom.

    JACKSON, Miss. - Senior running back Curt Jones rushed for 208 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries and senior teammate Bobby Swallow completed 22-of-31 passes for 246 yards, as 19th-ranked Washington & Jefferson outscored Millsaps 21-3 in the second half to upset the third-ranked Majors 35-20 and advance to the South Region Finals next weekend at Mary Hardin-Baylor.
