Alex Cornman, Texas Lutheran University, Hitter of the Week (Week 2)

ALEX CORNMAN OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior third baseman from Georgetown, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, February 10 through Sunday, February 16. 

Cornman hit .700 in the Bulldogs' three-game road series sweep of Hardin-Simmons. The junior drove in six runs, scored five, belted a home run, tripled twice, and had two doubles. He drove in four and went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a stolen base in the 16-3 victory. In the 6-5 win in the finale, Cornman went 3-for-5 and hit a solo home run in the ninth that proved to be the winning run.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Cody Crowder of Centenary went 4-for-7 with two RBI and two runs scored in a non-conference home doubleheader against Louisiana College. Crowder leads the team with a .471 batting average and already has three home runs and eight RBI on the season through just five games in helping propel the Gents to a 4-1 record. Senior third baseman Nathan Patton of Dallas went a perfect 4-for-4 in a doubleheader sweep of Howard Payne over the weekend. Patton started the twinbill with a 3-for-3 display at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. He scored two runs in the second game, as the third baseman walked twice in addition to his lone hit in that one. Senior third baseman Josh Gilliam of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a 1-2 weekend against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The senior was 7-for-14 with two doubles, a home run, and six RBIs. Junior outfielder Hayden Craig of Southwestern led the Pirates to a 2-1 series victory over Sul Ross State to open the season. Craig hit .438 with a .688 slugging percentage, hitting two doubles and a triple with four RBIs and six runs scored. Senior shortstop Michael Herrera of Trinity led the third-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 start to the season, going undefeated at the Concordia Classic in Austin, Texas. Herrera had a hit in three of the four games, but reached base four times in the only game he didn't get a hit over the weekend. He went 2-for-5 with two home runs in Saturday's win over LeTourneau, scoring twice and driving in three more runs. Later that day against hosting Concordia (Texas), he tied a school record with four walks. He capped the weekend by hitting his third home run of the tournament and scored two runs in another win over LeTourneau.
