PRESTON LUDWICK OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore first baseman from Pflugerville, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, March 18 through Sunday, March 24.
Ludwick was impressive at the plate for the Gents, going 10-for-12 (.833), slugging 1.500 and posting an .857 on base percentage in Centenary’s three-game series with Dallas. The sophomore hit for the cycle over the course of the weekend, driving in eight runs and scoring four more and stealing two bases. Friday night in the series opener against Dallas, Ludwick went 1-for-2, smashing a two-run homer for his only hit of the contest. In game one of the double-header on Saturday, Ludwick batted .800 (4-for-5) with two extra-base hits, four RBI and two stolen bases. Ludwick came back for game two even hotter, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two extra base hits and two RBI.
Other Outstanding Performances:
Senior outfielder Jake Martin of Trinity went 11-for-20 at the plate (.550), hitting for the cycle over the course of four games for the Tigers and notching six runs and six RBI. Southwestern junior outfielder Byron Dowdell II hit a home run in four of the Pirates’ five games last week, driving in nine runs and scoring six of his own. Dallas junior third baseman Nathan Patton collected 11 RBI, five runs and two stolen bases while batting .438 in a five-game set for the Crusaders. Sophomore outfielder Cullen Motsinger led Texas Lutheran to a pair of wins over top-ranked Trinity posting a .615 batting average with four runs, two extra base hits and two RBI.
