ALY HAZELWOOD
OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Baytown,
Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending September 27,
2009.
Hazelwood organized two on-campus events -
the Dig for the Cure with TUVAC as well as
the Dig Pink event this past season - both to benefit
the Komen Race for the Cure. She was on the planning committee for
Komen Race for the Cure and plans on doing it again this
year.
Hazelwood is now the Community Service Chair for
SAAC, which hopes to partner with Habitat for Humanity as its
service project this year.
This past summer Hazelwood was an unpaid
intern for the Houston Department of Health and Human Services and
helped organize media for both the Bureau of Animal Regulation and
Care and a children's healthcare project called Kids Village.
In addition to her dominating play on the volleyball court - the
senior middle blocker was SCAC Player-of-the-Week in Week 3
- Hazelwood has been an outstanding role
model for her teammates and all students at Trinity University with
her copious amounts of involvement in the community and her
outstanding work in the classroom.
