MICHAEL HADJISIMOS OF OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, a senior goalkeeper from Atlanta, Ga., has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending September 13, 2009
Aside from being fourth in the conference in goals against
average - having allowed just three goals in 380 minutes between
the pipes this season - Hadjisimos is also
heavily involved off the field, primarily with his volunteer
efforts for his church, the Greek Orthodox Church of Atlanta.
Hadjisimos works as a church volunteer at soup
kitchens, canned food drives and bake sales, to name a few
endeavors, in addition to being a member of the Hellenic Dancing
Team. As a volunteer with the Hellenic
Dancers, Hadjisimos travels and competes
against other churches as well as Greek Festivals to further the
knowledge of the Greek culture.
Additionally, Hadjisimos teaches Hellenic
Dancing to younger members of the church.
Hadjisimos is also president of the Petrel
Council, the NCAA student advisory group on campus, and he
organizes and schedules all of their meetings. Last year, under his
leadership, the Petrel Council effectively added "Black Out Dates"
to the student body consciousness and helped spike attendance at
competitions. This year, the Petrel Council is establishing Teacher
Appreciation Day.
Finally, Hadjisimos is a member of the
Oglethorpe Accounting Society.
