Strong Third Quarter Propels Colorado College To 62-58 Victory Over Centenary

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - After a back-and-forth first half, Colorado College opened up a 10-point lead after the third quarter and held off a furious late rally by Centenary to earn a 62-58 victory in a SCAC women's quarterfinal match-up Friday evening on the campus of Colorado College. Official Tournament Website

Leading 45-35 after the third quarter, the Tigers opened up a 15-point lead (60-45) with 1:32 remaining but the Ladies went on a 13-1 run to cut the lead to 61-58 with seven seconds remaining but could get no closer. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colorado College held a 19-10 first quarter lead but Centenary turned the tables to outscore CC 19-10 in the second to leave the game knotted at 29 at the break.
  • Colorado College outscored Centenary 16-6 in the third quarter.
  • Centenary's Savanah Doty sank three 3-pointers in the final 1:22 to bring the Ladies back.
  • Colorado College, which came into the game ranked last in the league in field goal percentage defense, held Centenary to just 26.5 percent (18-68) from the field.

  • Centenary is still seeking its first SCAC tournament win and is 0-4 all-time.
  • Centenary ends its season with an 8-18 record.
UP NEXT
Colorado College (10-16) advances to take on Trinity University tomorrow at 5 p.m. MT. Trinity is the No. 1 seed with a 13-1 conferene mark (21-3 overall). It will just the second match-up between the two in the history of SCAC tournament play. Trinity defeated Colorado College 79-53 in an opening round game in 2014.
