Kassie Maddox, Texas Lutheran University, Offensive Player of the Week (Week 7)

KASSIE MADDOX OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior utility player from Midland, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, March 12 through Sunday, March 18.

Maddox hit .542 in eight games last week and drove in 14 runs while doubling five times and scoirng nine runs as TLU went 8-0 over spring break with doubleheader sweeps of UMHB, Messiah, Texas Dallas and La Verne.

Maddox had four RBI in the 9-1 run-rule win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and four RBI in the doubleheader sweep of Messiah. She finished the week with five RBI in a doubleheader sweep of La Verne. Maddox posted an on-base percentage of .621 and a slugging percentage of .750.

For the season, Maddox is in the top five in the SCAC in several offensive categories and currently leads the league in batting average (.517), on-base percentage (.567), hits (31) and runs batted in (27). She is second in doubles (eight) and slugging percentage (.750), third in total bases (45) and fourth in runs scored (19).

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year third baseman Julie Dueñas of Dallas reached base in all four games, and recorded multiple hits in three games at Austin College. In the first matchup of each day, the freshman was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with four RBI and tied a single-game school record for doubles with three in the series opener. She added another two-bagger in the final matchup, which came after logging three hits in as many at bats while driving in two. Overall, she totaled a team-high 13 bases in the series win. First-year catcher Katelyn Francis of Southwestern went 6 for 11 (.545) on the week with one double, one run scored and three runs batted in as the Pirates posted a 3-2 mark, including a series split with Centenary College. First-year catcher Rachel Brown of Schreiner led the Mountaineers to a 4-2 mark over spring break, and hit .438 (7-16) while drving in two runs and scoring three more. She had two doubles among her seven hits. Junior outfielder Marisa Trevino of Trinity hit .391 over the past week, going 5-13 at the plate with her first two career home runs. She scored four runs and drove in four more as Trinity went 2-6 overall.
