SCAC Announces 2010 Softball Championship Bracket

SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2010 Softball Championship bracket today. DePauw University, Rhodes College and Centre College represent the Eastern Division while Millsaps College, Southwestern University and Trinity University represent the Western Division.

The six team double-elimination tournament begins Friday, April 23 and runs through Sunday, April 25 at the Warrior Softball Field in Conway, Ark. The winner of the tournament receives the SCAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

Game one of the tournament features the #2 West seeded Southwestern Pirates taking on the East's #3 seeded Centre College Colonels. Southwestern (25-10 overall, 10-4 SCAC) enters the tournament having won nine of their last 10 in just their second year of it program. Centre (16-24, 5-11 SCAC), on the other hand, enters its first SCAC tournament since the 2008 having not qualified last year and lost its final four contests of the year.

The second game pits the #2 East seeded Rhodes College Lynx and the #3 West seeded Trinity University. The Lynx enter the tournament with a 27-13 overall mark and an 8-8 SCAC mark while the Tigers come to Conway with a 14-20 overall record and a 7-7 mark in SCAC play.

DePauw University and Millsaps College both earned a first round bye with the #1 seeds out of the Eastern and Western Division respectively. DePauw, who will play the winner of game one Friday evening, returns to the SCAC Tournament as the two time defending champions and a 28-3 (15-1) record. Millsaps, who will play the winner of game two Friday night, comes to Conway with a record of 21-15 (12-4).
