JAMES SAPP OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore forward from Shongaloo, La., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday, January 4th.

Sapp led Centenary to a 1-1 record in conference play this past weekend against Colorado College, pouring in 22.5 pts/gm and 8.5 reb/gm to lead the Gents to their first victory over the Tigers in program history.

In an 83-76 loss to Colorado College, Sapp matched his career-best for the third time with 21 points on 6-for-12 shooting to go with 10 rebounds. He followed that up the following night and bested his career-high with 24 points on 7-of-11 shooting as well as 10-for-13 from the free throw line to go with seven boards in a 64-52 win.

For the season, Sapp has now scored in double figures in nine consecutive games and has reached the 20-plus plateau four times. He is currently third in the conference with 14.3 pts/gm and fourth in the SCAC with 6.3 reb/gm. He is second in the SCAC in field goal percentage at 59.2% and fifth in free throw percentage at 79.7%.

Senior forward Donte McGee of Texas Lutheran averaged a double-double over three games. The Bulldogs went 2-1 in those three games and won two on the road, against ASC preseason favorite and previously undefeated Hardin-Simmons and versus SCAC opponent Southwestern in the league opener.
