JAMES
SAPP OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a sophomore
forward from Shongaloo, La., has been selected the SCAC Men’s
Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played through Sunday,
December 14th.
Sapp led Centenary to a 1-1 record this past
weekend, falling just short to Texas-Dallas, 84-81, before bouncing
back and defeating Rust, 104-88.
Sapp averaged 18.0 points/game over the weekend to go with 6.5 rebounds/game while shooting 9-of-17 from the field and 18-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Against Texas-Dallas, Sapp picked up a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 boards. It was his first double-double of the season. He followed that up by tying a career-high with 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the home victory over the Bearcats. Sapp has now scored in double figures in eight straight contests.
For the season, Sapp is currently eighth in the conference with 12.7 points/game and leads the conference in field goal percentage at 60% (45-for-75). Sapp is also first in the league in total rebounds (59), fourth in total blocks (6), and seventh in steals (9).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard
Chris Molina of Southwestern led the Pirates in scoring
with 12 points in just 16 minutes of action, shooting 66.7% from
the floor and three point range. Austin College, Colorado College, Dallas, Schreiner, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity were
idle.
