Meghan Falconer, University of Dallas, Women's Lacrosse

MEGHAN FALCONER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore defender/midfielder on the University of Dallas women's lacrosse team, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending May 5, 2013.

Falconer, a two-year letterwinner from Kohler, Wisc., started all of Dallas’ thirteen games on the 2013 season. She scored three goals and recorded 18 ground balls. 

A year-round student-athlete, Falconer runs on the cross country team in the fall. 

“I run six miles daily -- in or out of season -- either listening to music, praying a rosary or with friends.” Falconer said. “Running is how I stay fit and release anxiety and stress from my intense school work load.” 

Falconer is a Theology major and is seeking a Pre-Med concentration from the University of Dallas.

She stated her dream job is to become a high school women’s cross country coach. 

“There is so much you learn from this beautiful sport that prepares you for life,” Falconer said. “Like how to humbly pursue excellence, how to persevere through great discomfort and how to make great sacrifices for something greater than yourself.” 

With these ideals at heart, Falconer strives to make a positive impact on campus and in her community. She is a member of the Pre-Health Society, Crusaders for Life, the Swing Club, and America Runs for Dallas. 

Falconer is also involved with Regnum Christi (R.C.), a movement in the Catholic Church that is dedicated to service and missionary work in everyday life. 

“Members of the University of Dallas student body meet weekly to reflect on a gospel passage and discuss ways to implement the message into our lives,” Falconer said. “We also participate in the weekly Holy Hour for Vocations -- held every Thursday -- where we dedicate an hour to pray for an increase in Vocations to the priesthood and religious life.”  

Falconer shared that every summer she volunteers as a counselor for R.C. youth summer camps. 

“I help children make friends, have fun, learn and nurture their faith as well as prepare them for the pressures they will face in high school and beyond,” Falconer said. “Once or twice a year, I am able to assist in local R.C. high school girls’ retreats and projects such as the annual ‘Pure Fashion,’ a seminar about modesty and chastity as well as a fashion show held at a local Dallas parish for young girls in the area.” 

Every Holy Week, Falconer stated she participates in the R.C. Holy Week Mission run by the Dallas R.C. lay consecrated women. 

“This mission is nearly a week-long service retreat where I join with other R.C. women,” Falconer said.” We visit nursing homes and homeless shelters, and partake in door-to-door evangelization by inviting people to the Easter masses. We also produce a free children's carnival to help the parish's local children learn the Gospel message of Easter.” 

“It is a really beautiful way to thank Christ for His ultimate sacrifice,” Falconer said. “Even though this week is physically and emotionally exhausting each year, it energizes me to be more zealous and charitable, and it fuels my desire to accept every opportunity to give of myself for the great work of the Church.”
