RICA JOHNSON
OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior
guard on the women's basketball team from Fort Worth, Texas, has
been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female
Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending January 6,
2013.
Johnson, who is the first child/grandchild from
her family to attend college, is majoring in Education with a minor
in ESS, while garnering a 3.16 GPA. She has been involved in
placements at a local middle school where she teaches seventh and
eighth graders and she will be teaching at Eastview High School
this academic year.
During her freshman year, Johnson dove into many
activities on campus. She is a campus icon, of sorts, as everyone
on campus seems to know of Rica's friendly, outgoing nature.
Johnson is highly involved in Operation
Achievement (a mentoring program at the local middle schools) and
the Neighborhood Conference Committee (NCC) of Williamson County
where she mentors and assists at risk juveniles. She also manages
to hold a paying job where she is a supervisor for the Southwestern
Intramural and Recreation Department, volunteer at her church and
play basketball for the Pirates.
