Heather Capozzella, University of Dallas, Women's Cross Country

HEATHER CAPOZZELLA OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior Biology Major from Enid, Oklahoma, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending February 26, 2012.

Capozzella, a two-year captain on the women’s cross country team, is an O’Hara Chemical Sciences Institute Scholar. She has assisted in Biology research in the UD Human Performance lab with duties ranking from taking and interpreting data to writing reports on her findings.

She is also a member of Beta Beta Beta, a Biology Honor Society and worked as a volunteer with both the UD Earth Service and the Earth Day Band Coordinator for Las Colinas.

A Deans List student, Capozzella has also earned the Mike Zurst Cross Country Citizen Award and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Capozzella was one of 18 SCAC student-athletes chosen to attend the 2012 NCAA Convention this past January as part of a conference-wide gender equity and diversity initiative.

A varsity swimmer in high school, Capozzella has served as a lifeguard and a youth swimming instructor in her hometown of Enid, Oklahoma.
