Kristen Canepa, Trinity University, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 1)

KRISTEN CANEPA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior defender from Westlake Village, Calif., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played the week of Friday, August 31st to Sunday, September 2nd.

Canepa led No. 12 Trinity to a pair of home shutouts to start the season, earning a 1-0-1 record against Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound over the weekend. Canepa and the Tiger defense allowed just 18 total shots in more than 200 minutes of action, including just five shots on goal in the two double-overtime contests.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman defender Veronica Dougherty of Centenary College led the Ladies to a, 3-1, opening victory against Belhaven last week, limiting the Blazers to just two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Mary Cardone of Southwestern was instrumental in helping the Pirates to a 1-1 record in the opening weekend of the season, collecting 20 total saves. Junior goalie Stephanie Barrientos of Texas Lutheran held strong in the box making 15 total saves as the Bulldogs split a pair of non-conference contests to open the season. In the victory over Concordia, Barrientos took her first win and produced a .857 save percentage.
