ALENA STERN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a junior goalkeeper from Kings Mountain, Calif., has been named SCAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 17 through Sunday, February 23.
Stern posted an 8.67 goals-against average and a .658 saves percentage, stopping 25 of 38 shots on goal while leading Colorado College to back-to-back victories over a pair of NCAA Tournament teams in the first two games of the season.
During Friday’s 9-8 victory at Rhodes College, Stern made a career-high 20 saves on 28 shots on goal, which eclipsed her previous high of 16 saves set during the 2018 season against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The following day in the 15-12 win against Illinois Wesleyan University, Stern stopped five of the 10 shots shed faced during the first half, helping the Tigers build a commanding 11-5 lead after 30 minutes.
