BERNICE LEONARD OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Bellaire, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for tournaments played through Tuesday, September 9th.
Leonard won her first collegiate tournament at the Lady Bulldog Fall Classic as she bested the field with an overall mark of 146 (74, 72), five shots ahead of the second place golfer.
Leonard led the Pirates to a third place finish, who carded an overall 646 (327, 319). Leonard’s second-round score of 72 was the lowest single-round score for any of the golfers at the tournament.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Kaycee Bankert
of Schreiner University had a career-best performance at the
TLU Lady Bulldog Invitational, shooting a 157 (78, 79) over
two days for a seventh place tie with Melanie Dean of Schreiner
University who also had a career best performance, shooting
rounds identical to her teammate, Bankert, and both helping lead
Schreiner to a second-place finish. Freshman Shelby DeVore of Trinity
University finished her first collegiate
competition, the TLU Lady Bulldog Invitational in second place,
carding a 151 and leading the Tigers to a first place finish.
Devore led the field through the first round, shooting a +1 score
of 73. Texas
Lutheran did not nominate anyone.
