STERLING, Va. - SCAC Player of the Year Melanie Auguste, Trinity standout Krista Prato Matthews and Oglethorpe University head coach Ron Sattele highlight the league's eight selections to the 2009 D3hoops.com All-Region teams.
Sattele guided Oglethorpe to a 27-4 record, its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth (Sweet 16 appearance) and its first ever SCAC Championship in 2008-09. He has tallied a 105-42 record through five seasons and guided the Stormy Petrels to the 2008 Division III Women's Final Four.
Auguste, who also won the 2009 Josten's Trophy earlier this month, was a first-team All-South selection. The Colorado College senior led the SCAC in scoring (20 ppg), assists (7 apg) and was fourth in rebounding (8.9 rpg). This marked Auguste's first selection to the all-region team.
Joining Auguste on the first team was Prato Matthews. She led the league in rebounding (12.9 rpg) while also finishing second in scoring with 17.5 points per game. This was Prato Matthews' second selection to the all-region team.
Earning second team All-South honors was Oglethorpe senior guard Anna Findley. Findley led the SCAC in free-throw shooting (89.1 percent), was third in three-point shooting (41.4 percent) and fifth in the league in scoring averaging 17.1 points per game. This marked her first selection to the all-region team.
Also earning second team honors was Austin College junior Katy Williams. She led the team in scoring (13.9 ppg), rebounding (10.2 rpg) and field goal percentage (50.9 percent). This was her second selection to the all-region team.
Earning third team honors was Southwestern senior Natasha Azizi. Azizi was third in the SCAC in scoring (17.2 ppg) and fifth in the league in field goal percentage (50.2 percent). This was her first selection to the all-region team.
Oglethorpe senior Katie Kulavic was also a third-team slection. Kulavic, who became the SCAC's all-time leading scorer (men or women) this season, led the conference in field goal percentage (53.3 percent) and was sixth in scoring averaging 15.6 points per game. This marked her second all-region selection.
DePauw senior guard Cassie Pruzin was named to the All-Great Lakes region third-team. Pruzin led the Tigers in scoring (12.3 ppg) and three-point field goals (2.5 per game). This was her second all-region selection.
