Schreiner Explodes for Eight Runs to Defeat Austin College

Espinoza earned her second win of the championship, pitching a complete game shutout, allowing no runs off five hits. With her only striking out one batter, Espinoza's defense was terrific again, committing no errors in the contest. 

After scoring on their first run on a passed ball in the fourth, Schreiner (9-30, 6-16 SCAC), Schreiner got a RBI single from Reanna Garces to take a 2-0 lead.

Sarah Worrell made it 4-0 in the fifth inning with a two run bomb over the left field wall. 

The Mountaineers exploded for four more runs in the seventh to take an 8-0 lead. It was more than enough for Espinoza who finished things off in the bottom half of the seventh for the complete game.

Garces finished 3-for-4 with three RBI on the day while Worrell went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored on the afternoon. Dom Sandoval and Daneece Stewart each had a pair of hits for Schreiner on the afternoon.

Victoria Herrera was saddled the loss for Austin College (10-16, 5-13 SCAC), pitching 6.1 innings and allowing six earned runs on 13 hits. Chelsea Easley led the way offensively, finishing with a pair of hits in the contest.

Schreiner moves on to face Southwestern University today at 4 p.m. in an elimination game as they try to take one step closer to the SCAC Championship Game. Austin College finishes their season at 10-16.
