Centre men place 32nd at NCAA Cross Country Championships

HANOVER, Ind. - Competing in its fourth NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship meet since 2004, the Centre College men's cross country team placed 32nd overall at this year's Championships, Saturday, at Hanover College.

The 16th-ranked Colonels, which finished 28th in 2006, 22nd in 2005 and 24th in 2004, finished with a team score of 766. Cortland State finished first out of 32 schools to win the overall team title with a score of 80. North Central was second with a 115 and Williams placed third with a score of 129.

Junior Jason Parks was the top finisher for the Colonels running a time of 25:39 to place 108th overall. Senior Joey Polio placed 193rd with a time of 26:09. Senior Chase Wilson was 222nd with a time of 26:23 and freshman Willie Polio and sophomore Clinton Cahall rounded out the top five for Centre placing 229th (26:26) and 257th (26:41) respectively.

Hamilton's Peter Kosegei won the overall individual crown, running the 8K course in 24:22. Kosegei averaged 4:54 minutes per mile to place first out of 278 total competitors.

Junior Bryant Wright of Trinity University was the top individual finisher from the SCAC, coming in at 71st with a finishing time of 25:22.75. Senior Mark Handelman of Rhodes College came in at 162nd with a finishing time of 25:57.07 and first-year Jackson Brainerd of Colorado College was 173th in a time of 26:00.34.
