DePauw Men; Trinity Women Win 2011 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships

SHENANDOAH, Texas - The DePauw University men's swimming and diving team won its seventh straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship while the Trinity University women's team won its eighth straight SCAC title. Official Championship Website

Trinity, which has won 11 titles overall, scored 876 points at the Conroe ISD's Woodforest Natatorium. DePauw was runner-up with 817 points.

The Centre College women's coaching staff, led by Dean Brownley, was honored as the SCAC women's Coaching Staff of the Year.

First-year swimmer Clark Weber, also of Centre, was named SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Meet after she won or was a part of wins in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 free, 800 free relay, 1650 free. She finished second in the 400 free.

Trinity's Ruth Hahn won SCAC Women's Diver of the Meet honors as she won the 1-meter competition (475.80) and nearly swept the diving competition as she finished in second in the 3-meter (530.45). She was just 0.05 points behind teammate Hayley Emerick in the 3-meter.

Weber's win in the 1650 free set a new SCAC Open and Championship meet record (17:07.65). Teammate Colleen Maggard set a SCAC record in the 200 backstroke (2:03.54) while

DePauw's Katie Massey earned an NCAA "B" cut time in the 100 free after clocking a time of 52.10. Teammate Catie Baker earned a "B" cut in the 200 breast (2:22.02). Sewanee: University of the South's Sarah Neil successfully defended her title in the 200 fly by finishing with a "B" cut time of 2:06.35.

Both the DePauw and Centre 400 free relay teams earned "B" cuts as they finished in 3:31.85 and 3:31.86.

In men's action the Colorado College coaching staff, led by Anne Goodman James as well as the DePauw coaching staff led by Adam Cohen earned SCAC Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The Colorado College Tigers finished in third-place. It marked the highest ever finish for the team since they joined the SCAC.

DePauw won its seventh straight and final SCAC championship before they move to the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2011-12. The Tigers won a total of nine SCAC championships in a 13 year span (1999-2011).

DePauw's 400-yard freestyle relay of Johnny Montgomery, Jack Burgeson, George Morrison and Josh Baugh won in 3:06.78, while Matt Gleason picked up the other win on Saturday by finishing the 200 butterfly in an NCAA "B" time of 1:52.35.

Matt Kukurugya also posted a "B" cut time of 2:04.57 after finishing second in the 200 breast. Montgomery placed third in the 100 free in 46.53 seconds and Cameron Wiethoff rounded out the Tigers' all-SCAC performances with a third-place showing in 1:55.47.

Trinity's Andrew Battles earned a "B" cut time in the 200 back by tallying a 1:52.67.

SCAC Men's Swimmer of the Meet, Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College, earned "B" cut status as he clocked a 45.66 in the 100 free.

He had an outstanding meet as he won the 50 free (21.02) and the 100 fly (50.10 in finals - SCAC record 49.83 in prelims) while also earning second-place finishes in the 400 free relay (anchor leg), 200 free relay (anchor leg), 800 free relay and took third in the 200 medley relay. DeGayner became the first Colorado College swimmer named SCAC men's or women's Swimmer of the Meet since the Tigers joined the SCAC.

Trinity's Kevin Martin earned SCAC Men's Diver of the Meet honors after he swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter board competitions. He won the 1-meter with a score of 515.20 and followed that up by winning the 3-meter with a 534.35.
