Christian Sakshaug, Trinity University, Newcomer of the Year
CHRISTIAN SAKSHAUG OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a first-year midfielder on the men's soccer team, has been selected as the 2015 SCAC Newcomer of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches.
Sakshaug, a first-year from San Antonio, Texas, has started every game at center midfield and is the Tigers’ points leader (21), with the most assists (7) and the second-most goals (7) of anyone on the squad. Among first-year players, Sakshaug leads the SCAC in assists and is second in both goals scored and points. He had a goal and an assist in Trinity’s 5-0 victory over Texas Lutheran in the SCAC semifinals and was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts. Sakshaug third Trinity student-athlete to earn at least a share of SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year honors in the last four years, including his current teammates Francisco Vasquez (2013) and Carwile (2012).

Like Carwile, Sakshaug was the coaches’ consensus choice for Newcomer-of-the-Year as he received seven votes in the balloting. First-year midfielder Andrew Ciancone of the University of Dallas received the remaining vote.
