JAYLIN BABERS OF LYON COLLEGE, a fifth-year senior running back from Colorado Springs, Colo., has been named the SCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week for games played Saturday, September 7. SCAC Football Release (Week 1)
Babers had 164 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 32 carries as Lyon posted a 48-28 season-opening victory over Grinnell Saturday afternoon in Iowa. His 21-yard scamper to the endzone in the fourth quarter put the game on ice for the Scots.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior quarterback Caden Bosanko of Texas Lutheran finished 21-of-31 for 240 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed ten times for a team-high 19 yards as the Bulldogs upset #13 Trinity on the road on Saturday. Sophomore wide receiver Kason O'Shields of McMurry had five receptions for two touchdowns and 148 yards, including a 92-yard touchdown late in the first half and another TD grab that gave the War Hawks a late lead. Junior wide receiver Kobe Chambers of Centenary had a big night for the Gents in their season-opening loss to Hendrix College on Saturday as he caught nine passes for a game-high 106 yards with a long of 18. He also ran in a two-point conversion on the Gents' second TD of the game. Chambers nearly had a TD early in the game as he took Centenary's first kickoff 90 yards for a score as the Atkins Field crowd of just under 2,000 was in a fever pitch but it was unfortunately negated by a holding penalty.
