Chris Tate, Trinity University, Pitcher of the Week (Week 2)

CHRIS TATE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior pitcher from Chandler, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Monday, February 8th through Sunday February 14th.

Tate helped #7 Trinity to a 2-1 start to the season at the Clements Fluid Classic last weekend, including a win over #20 University of Texas-Tyler on Sunday evening. Against #8 Birmingham-Southern, Tate came in for two shutout innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one.

His best outing came against tournament host UT-Tyler, though, as he earned the win in relief against the Patriots. Tate pitched the final 5.1 innings of the game, shutting down a potent UT-Tyler offense that had scored six runs on nine hits over the first three-plus innings. Tate held the Patriots scoreless, giving up just one hit, and striking out nine batters to allow the Tiger offense to rally for the win.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Matthew Devillier of Centenary College improved to 2-for-2 in save opportunities, coming in with the Gents up one and throwing a four-inning save against the #20 team in the nation, UT Tyler. Senior pitcher Mychael Parish of Austin College tossed a complete game shutout in his first start of the season, a 4-0 win over Arlington Baptist. Senior pitcher Lincoln Baylor of Texas Lutheran pitched 8-1/3 innings and struck-out a career-high nine in the Bulldogs' 6-0 win Friday night at LeTourneau. Junior first baseman Zach San Roman of Dallas batted .571 (4-7) on the weekend including a perfect game at the plate in the home-opener versus East Texas Baptist University.
