SEWANEE, Tenn. - Over the last several weeks, each
of Sewanee's athletic teams has funded and purchased Christmas
gifts for 17 "angels" in nearby Grundy County. These so-called
"angels" are underprivileged children, ranging from ages six months
to 17 years, whose families do not have the means to provide them
with Christmas presents this year given the current economic
situation.
The effort was organized by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee
(SAAC). The money raised for the gifts was completely independent
of team athletic budgets. It was simply the result of
student-athletes having the desire to give from their own pockets
to brighten the lives of some local children at Christmas.
The SAAC came together on Thursday, December 10, Reading Day, to
deliver the presents to the Grundy County Angel Tree.
