MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Lynx Softball team will
battle Crichton College on Saturday, September 27 at 10am, in a
game that will be played to benefit and raise awareness for
cervical cancer. Saturday's "Hit for a Cure" will be a
culmination of a week-long effort by the players, in which all
proceeds will benefit the Stephanie Vasofsky Cervical Cancer Foundation.
Throughout the course of the week, each Lynx Softball player has
researched and written a 2 page essay on cervical cancer, and on
Thursday afternoon will spend 5-10 minutes with other women's
varsity sports teams at Rhodes to share what they have
learned. In addition, team members have hung banners and
signs all across campus, and set up a table in the Burrow Refectory
during meal times this week, distributing brochures and information
to students, as well as collecting donations and selling t-shirts
to benefit the Stephanie Vasofsky Cervical Cancer
Foundation.
Between games on Saturday, Stephanie's mother, Debbie Gregory, and
her best friend, Kristen Taylor, will share Stephanie's story and
talk with everyone in attendance about the foundation and its
goals. Rhodes will wear their "Hit for a Cure" t-shirts
during the games, and have been wearing "PRAY for a Cure" bracelets
all week to support the effort.
