Austin College and Centre Men's Soccer Team up with Susan G. Komen For the Cure

(From Centre's website)

DANVILLE, Ky. - In 2007, two good friends and head soccer coaches at Austin College and Centre College, Mark Hudson and Jeb Burch, agreed to a friendly wager. Which team could raise the most money for Susan G. Komen For the Cure? In 2007, the Austin College men's team raised the most money, with a combined $7,000 donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in the name of Sue Hauck and Elizabeth Walter. Sue Hauck's son played for Centre and Elizabeth Walter and her family were long time friends of Mark Hudson and his family in Danville, Ky.

In the 2007 Komen Game, Robby Crump (Louisville, Ky.) scored the game-winner and his lone collegiate goal, in sudden death over time, for the win over Austin.

In 2008, both programs will again look to see who can win this friendly wager. If you would like to support the Centre College Men's team in this competition, please send your donation to Jeb Burch, 600 West Walnut Street, Danville, KY, 40422.

Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure, we have invested nearly $1 billion to fulfill our promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

The Komen Game II will be played on Friday, October 17th, in Sherman, Texas, between Centre and Austin. Donations should be received no later than Thursday, October 16th. If you feel your donation may come late, please confirm your donation with Jeb Burch via email at jeb.burch@centre.edu, so your donation can be included.
