Theresa Feller, Trinity University, Women's Cross Country/Track & Field

THERESA FELLER OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior on the women's cross country and track & field teams from Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 17.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.



Feller serves as a leader in the Alamo Heights, Texas, Young Life, a religious organization which helps young people grow in their faith. She helps plan and lead weekly meetings for high school girls and the Young Life leaders.

San Antonio’s Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children has benefitted from Feller’s work with pre-kindergarten and third grade students. She assists the students with class work, and helps teachers with classroom preparation.

Last summer, Feller was in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, as part of an Atlantis Clinical Fellowship. The versatile Feller shadowed physicians at Hospital Santa Luzia in various departments, including pediatrics and orthopedics.

A resident of Austin, Texas, Feller has worked on the summer staff at Grace Covenant Church in her hometown. She served as a mentor for middle school and high school students and was a counselor at the church’s summer camp.

Feller is a biochemistry and molecular biology major and will earn her Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity in May. An outstanding student, Feller has been a member of Trinity’s Dean’s List and the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.

She plans to take a gap year after graduation and apply to medical schools. During that year, Feller hopes to teach at the high school level.

Last October, Feller posted two personal-best performances on cross country courses. She ran the 6k in 25:30.5 at the Bill Libby Invitational at Abilene, Texas. Later in the month, Feller traveled with her team to the Chile Pepper Cross Country Invitational at Fayetteville, Arkansas, and finished the 5k in 20:41.3.

Feller registered a personal-best time of 2:33.21 in the 800 meters event at the 2019 SCAC Track & Field Championships, held at Trinity. The Tiger women’s team went on to win its fifth consecutive SCAC Championship.
