JAMES WARREN OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior on the men's swimming and diving team from Heath, Texas, has been selected as the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning January 20.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Warren has volunteered in San Antonio and his home of Heath, Texas, which is part of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

The Tiger swim team captain regularly volunteers at the Headwaters Sanctuary located at nearby University of the Incarnate Word. The 53-acre nature sanctuary contains the Blue Hole, the source spring of the San Antonio River. Warren and his teammates clear out certain invasive plant species, maintain the facilities, and also plant trees.

Warren has volunteered at Christmas with the SoupMobile in Dallas. According to its website, the organization takes food to homeless persons, shelters them, supplies gifts and clothing, and invites the participants to the SoupMobile Church.

On campus, Warren is a member of the Trinity Honor Council, the governing body of the “student-run academic integrity system.” He is also the risk management chair of the Phi Sigma Chi fraternity.

Warren majors in business analytics and technology and management, with a minor in English. He has earned recognition as a member of Trinity’s Dean’s List, and the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.

He studied abroad for two months last year at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China. As a consulting intern with Sino Associates, Warren was tasked with producing and presenting training materials to corporate executives. He also researched information regarding Chinese-U.S. Chamber of Commerce relations.

Warren served as a governmental intern for U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas), at the congressman’s District 4 office in Rockwall, Texas. The Trinity student assisted constituents and researched information for the Washington, D.C., office.

In Rockwall, Warren was an administrative intern for GMR Protection Resources. He helped develop and implement customer relationship management (CRM) data software for the company.

Recently, Warren won his favorite swimming event, the 200-yard individual medley, in a home dual meet with Southwestern (TX) University. During his first year as a Trinity Tiger (2018), Warren emerged as the SCAC champion in the 200 IM. He has also earned All-SCAC accolades in the 200-yard butterfly on two occasions.
