Kevin Lee, Trinity University, Men's Tennis

KEVIN LEE OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior on the Tigers' men's tennis team, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period beginning April 3rd, 2017.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

 

 

Lee is a biochemistry and molecular biology major, who will earn his Bachelor of Science degree in May 2018. Related to his major, Lee has worked for the Voelcker Biomedical Research Academy. He has continued research investigating natural products as potential treatments for skin cancer. From June to August 2016, Lee was a Voelcker Summer Undergraduate Research Fellow.

He has volunteered for many years at San Antonio’s Methodist Hospital. Lee’s activities have included volunteering in the cardiac catheterization lab, along with the surgical and cardiac intensive care units. He has also assisted at the Specialty Surgery Center, an outpatient surgical unit.

Lee taught at the Teen Medical Academy, in conjunction with Trinity’s American Medical Student Association. He conducted monthly workshops for economically disadvantaged students. At the South Texas Eye Institute, Lee created a video to raise awareness about diabetes.

As a volunteer in tennis activities, Lee has participated in the National Junior Tennis and Learning, a community program for children who normally would not have the opportunity to play the sport. He also assists with children’s tennis clinics prior to Trinity tennis matches. Lee has volunteered with Dick Stockton’s Blue Sky Foundation, which hosts free tennis clinics for members of the military and their families.

Academically, Lee has been a National Merit Finalist, and the recipient of the Murchison and Trinity Towers Day Scholarships. He is a member of Trinity’s Dean’s List, the SCAC Academic Honor Roll, and has been selected as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athlete.

Lee is vice president of Trinity’s American Medical Student Association, and has also served as treasurer. He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Golden Key International Honour Society.

On the tennis court, Lee has been a contributor to the Tigers’ success. Trinity advanced to the 2016 NCAA Division III Round of 16, and the 2015 Quarterfinals. The Tigers captured the 2015 ITA Division III National Team Indoors Championships, and are the defending SCAC champions.
