GWEN MOHLER OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a senior on the Crusaders’ women’s lacrosse team, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Character and Community Award Winner for the week beginning March 13, 2017.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Mohler serves as the President on the UD Sustainability Team. This campus organization was started a year ago with the mission to instill a desire for students to develop sustainable lifestyle practices by hosting different green activities for the Student Body to take part in and enjoy.

Some examples of these activities include: clothing drives, guest speakers, partner with the Community Garden Project on campus, and participating in Earth Day Texas.

“Coming from San Francisco where people recycle, compost, take public transportation, thrift shop, etc., I have always been taught that my actions have a direct impact on the environment around me,” Mohler explained. “This is why I always think twice before buying a plastic bottle, throwing away clothes I do not wear anymore, or printing something off that can be read from my computer. All this inspired me to bring that green spirit to Texas, and that is what I try to embody as the president of the UD Sustainability Team.”

Mohler is also one-of-two seniors on the lacrosse team and a captain. The attacker has notched a career-high six goals so far this season and added two assists for eight points. This is her third season playing for the Crusaders and she has lettered every year eligible.
