Ashley Ward, Trinity University, Women's Swimming

ASHLEY WARD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore on the Tigers' swimming and diving team, has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Character and Community Award Winner for the week beginning March 6, 2017.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

 

 

Ward has volunteered with the Humane Society of North Texas, the Victory Therapy Center, and San Antonio’s Russell Equestrian Center. This volunteer work will be beneficial for her career plans, which is to become a veterinarian. Ward also has volunteered at the Community Storehouse, which aids underserved children, and at the Keller (TX) Senior Center.

On campus, Ward is a member of Trinity’s Student-Athlete Advisory committee, and helps to plan the organization’s service events. She intends to major in biochemistry and molecular biology.

In the pool, Ward earned All-SCAC honors in five events during the 2016 SCAC Swimming & Diving Championships. She posted all-conference times and finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and the 500-yard freestyle. Ward also picked up All-SCAC accolades in the 200 and 400-yard medley relays, as well as the 800-yard freestyle relay, playing  a major role in the Tigers’ SCAC Championship run.
