Adam Saunders, Trinity University, Football/Track & Field

ADAM SAUNDERS OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior dual sport student-athlete on the Tiger football and track & field teams, has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Male Character and Community Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning March 28, 2016.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

 

 

Saunders is extensively involved in campus and community affairs. Saunders has been a vice president of the Black Male Leadership Initiative, which promotes the retention, progression, and graduation of men at Trinity University. He also is a member of Trinity’s Black Student Union. Saunders celebrates his African-American culture and heritage by volunteering at the DoSeum, formerly known as the San Antonio Children’s Museum.

Saunders is a psychology major, and is expected to receive his degree in May 2017. He also minors in biology, and sport management. In conjunction with his major, Saunders created and edited studies for participants in psychological studies. The project examined children and adults ability for verb learning. Saunders also conducted a school-wide survey on attitudes at Trinity about sexual assault. He developed community awareness of the topic, and enhanced peers education.

He is a member of the student work team at Trinity’s William H. Bell Athletic Center, serving in a number of capacities. Saunders works as a Bell Center manager, and as an intramural supervisor on campus.

On the football field, the defensive back was selected for the 2014 USA College Football Division III Pre-Season All-American Honorable Mention Team. Saunders was also named to a 2014 D3football.com Team of the Week, for his performance against Southwestern University. Additionally, Saunders was tabbed as the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week. He  made the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team in 2015, and the conference First Team the previous season.

A versatile student-athlete, Saunders is a four-time All-SCAC honoree in track & field. The sprinter qualified for last season’s All-SCAC Team in the 100 and 200 meters. Saunders was part of the 2014 conference-champion 4x100-meter relay team, and also earned a slot on the All-SCAC unit for the 100 meters.
