EMILY SEXTON OF CENTENARY COLLEGE, a senior on the softball team, has been named the SCAC Character & Community Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning February 15, 2016.

The SCAC honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

“As the lone senior on our team, Emily has embraced the leadership role,” explained head coach Mark Suire. “Her character, selflessness, and willingness to help others has made her a role model both on and off the field.”

Sexton is majoring in political science with a minor in history. An outfielder and leadoff hitter for the Ladies, Sexton has helped the Maroon and White to its best start in program history at the NCAA Division III level.  So far through six games, Sexton is batting .300 with six hits, six runs scored, three RBI’s and the only home run for the Ladies this season.

Sexton and the rest of the Ladies are highly involved at Common Ground in Shreveport. Common Ground provides a free meal every Thursday night while also distributing groceries to members of the community. The center also provides after school tutoring for students.

She is also involved with the large annual Book Bazaar, hosted by Centenary every fall. The event resells donated books at a low cost, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the College.
