ZOE
CLARK OF RHODES COLLEGE, a senior
midfielder on the women's soccer team who hails from
Albuquerque, N.M., has been selected the SCAC Character &
Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for the week ending
October 2, 2011.
Clark is a member of Beta Beta Beta (Biology
Honor Society), American Chemical Society, and Rhodes’ Mortar
Board. She is a teaching assistant for Comparative Vertebrate
Morphology and has done chemistry research for Dr. Cafiero at
Rhodes.
Clark volunteered with refugee resettlement and
support in New Mexico where she taught English as a second
language. Last spring in Costa Rica she volunteered at Albergue San
Gabriel for terminal kids and their families. Earlier in her career
at Rhodes she participated in a tutoring program with Memphis
Literacy Corps, volunteered at University of New Mexico
children’s hospital, and taught sexual health to young women
and coached soccer while in Honduras.
Most recently Clark has organized the Rhodes
women’s soccer race team for the St. Jude marathon. This
December many of the current players, alumni, friends and family of
players will participate in various facets of the race. Some
participants will be running the marathon, more will run the half
marathon, and most will be working the Rhodes watering station
during the race. Clark has been instrumental in
the Lynx’ efforts of raising $2,000 for the St. Jude’s
cancer research fund. The Lynx will be selling t-shirts to help
support the fundraising efforts that will have the names of family
members that are battling or have lost their fight with
cancer.
