Jones' 2009 Triple Jump Title Named Top SCAC Men's Track & Field Moment

SUWANEE, Ga. - On the final day of competition, Centre College's Chrys Jones set a new Don Drumm Stadium record with his winning triple jump at the 2009 NCAA Division III Men's Track & Field Championships. The sophomore sensation jumped 50 feet, 3 1/4 inches to earn the national title in the event, the first-ever for a Centre student-athlete.

Jones' 2009 national title performance in the triple jump - the 19th individual national championship at that time for a SCAC student-athlete - is being recognized as the Top Moment in the history of SCAC men's outdoor track & field. Top 20 Moments homepage

With his victory at the 2009 national meet, Jones became the first male SCAC student-athlete to win a national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Rose-Hulman's Chris Trapp won back-to-back-to-back javelin titles from 1984-1986.

Jones ended his career with four national championships in the triple jump - two of which were indoor national championships (2010, 2011) and two were outdoor (2009, 2010) - and is one of just two student-athletes in SCAC history to earn four national individual championships during a career. Trinity University's Christyn Schumann was a four-time high jump national champion (one indoor - 2005; three indoor - 2004, 2005, 2006).

SCAC male student-athletes recorded a conference-high five all-America performances at the 2009 national meet. In addition to Jones, Trinity University senior Chris Baer earned all-America honors for the second straight year by registering a throw of 201 feet even (61.27 meters) to take third place in the javelin. His teammate, freshman Justin Campbell, placed third in the discus with a toss of 164 feet, 7 inches (50.18 meters). And Trinity senior Todd Wildman earned two all-America honors, placing second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.29 seconds (just five-hundredths of a second behind the winner and sixth in the long jump with a jump of 22 feet, 10 3/4 inches (6.98 meters).
