LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference outdoor track & field teams were in action last week, including Colorado College making its outdoor debut at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird on Saturday.

Freshman April Kwan made quite a splash Saturday as the Colorado College women's track and field team opened its 2021 season at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird Meet Saturday. Kwan beat out 13 other athletes to win the high jump competition, clearing 5'3" on her third and final attempt at that height. She also finished 11th in the long jump and ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay that finished first in 54.94 seconds. She joined sophomore Kate Odom and freshmen Kalyanne and Isabella Lutes. Freshman Emma Fowkes also put together a solid meet, placing fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.4 seconds and 18th in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.54. Fellow freshman Georgia Van der Linden finished 10th in the 100 hurdles (18.73). Sophomore Claire Quinn led four runners in the top 12 of the 5K with an eighth-place finish. Junior Emily Dwyer, freshman Lily Brazil and sophomore Na'ama Nevo finished 10th, 11th and 12th, respectively.

Trinity competed at the Wes Kittely Invitational, hosted by NCAA I Abilene Christian University, on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers collected a runner-up performance in the women's 1500-meter from first-year Ellie Catron (4:54.45) and 2021 Spring SCAC Cross Country Champion, senior Jordan Juran, finished the women's 5,000-meter just-shy of the top five with a time of 19:00.8. Avery Puig finished in the top 15 in three different events on Saturday, including a new personal record (12.57) in the 100-meter dash. She also set a new personal best with her time of 15.52 in the 100-meter hurdles and was 13th in the 400-meter hurdles. Selina Noe posted a season-best time of 13.47 seconds in the 100 meters, then finished 13th in the long jump with a mark of 5.20 meters. Rylie Edwards joined Noe in setting a new personal record with a time of 16.50 seconds in the 100 hurdles, while also finishing 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.88. Merriam Scafide tied her personal best from two weeks ago by clearing 1.55 meters in the high jump for a ninth-place finish. Makenna Bentley was 10th in the event with the same mark of 1.55 meters that is also her season-best. Elaine Kaster led a group of four Tiger runners in the top six in the 1500-meter run, finishing third with a time of 5:06.95. Anna King was just behind her in fourth, followed by Maia Dykstra in fifth, and Ardi Saunders in sixth. Paige Tangney and three teammates had similar success in the 800-meter run, swiping four of the top eight spots. Tangney was fourth in a time of 2:23.06, followed by Olive Pertuit in fifth, Madison Habeck in sixth, and Cassandra Williams in eighth.

The University of Dallas women competed in the TSU Relays in Houston, Texas on Saturday. Crusader freshman Grace Ebberwein headlined the day's events for Dallas with a PR and a second-place finish in the 5000 meter run with a time of 21:04.59 in a race that featured five athletes from Grambling. Megan Scott also hit a PR in the 5000m with a time of 21:38.18.

Next week, all nine conference teams are scheduled to compete, including Dallas, Schreiner, Southwestern, St. Thomas and Trinity at the Texas Lutheran Division III Challenge.
