ALEX GILL OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a senior midfielder from Tomball, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week beginning October 9th.
Gill helped the Mountaineers to a pair of conference wins over the weekend as Schreiner moved to 7-1-1 in SCAC play.
Gill scored twice last week, notching game-winners in both games. In Friday's contest against Southwestern, Gill tallied the eventual game winner in the 14th minute off of an assist from Cailee Morgan. She followed that score up with the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Texas Lutheran University on Sunday.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore midfielder Karolina Cruz of Austin College tallied the game winner in the 88th minute to help Austin College earn a critical three points and take one step closer to clinching a spot in the SCAC Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Dallas on Sunday. Sophomore forward Kyra Montes of Centenary College scored her second goal of the season - a game-winner - on a penalty kick against Dallas and added a second goal off a blocked-shot rebound to have two goals in the first half of a 4-0 win. Senior midfielder Colleen Markey of Trinity University assisted on the game-winner in both games, as the Tigers recorded a pair of shutout victories. She assisted on two of the first three goals in Friday's win over Texas Lutheran, then picked up the initial assist in Sunday's win against the Pirates.
