SHERIDAN HOPKINS OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior guard from Galveston, Texas, has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played Monday, Jamuary 6 through Sunday, January 12. 

Hopkins led St. Thomas to a perfect 2-0 record last weekend as the Celts improved to 6-2 in SCAC play after picking up home wins over Texas Lutheran, 87-68, on Friday and Southwestern, 104-66, on Sunday.  Against the Pirates, with her sixth and seventh points of the contest, Hopkins became UST’s all-time leader in scoring with 1,681 points. She broke the previous record of 1,679 held by Maghen Lormand, who played for the Celts from 2012 through 2017. After her record-breaking points, Hopkins scored 29 more to finish Sunday’s contest with 35 points to go along with 13 rebounds and nine steals. For the week, Hopkins averaged 26.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest, while shooting 53 percent (19-for-36) from the floor. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Bre Frierson of Centenary scored 26 points and added five rebounds in 26 minutes of action to help lead the Ladies to their first win of the season, defeating Southwestern, 61-57, last Friday. Freshman forward Tedy Reed of Colorado College came off the bench to lead CC to a 78-30 win over Johnson & Wales last Friday with a season-high 18 points, connecting on 7-for-11 from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds and had a pair of steals. Freshman guard Beyonce Perry of Dallas put up a pair of double-digit scoring performances in two SCAC games last weekend. Perry scored 12 in a loss to Trinity and then followed that performance with her second highest total this year, 21 in a loss to Schreiner. Senior forward averaged a double-double for the week with a career-high 23 points and 17 rebounds against St. Thomas. Junior post Abby Hroch of Texas Lutheran averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs. She scored 15 points and had 15 rebounds in the 69-58 win at Centenary. Six of her rebounds came Naomi Brown of Southwestern on the offensive glass. For the week, she shot 66.7 percent from the field. Senior forward Abby Holland of Trinity averaged a double-double for the week, posting 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in the two wins including 14 points and 12 rebounds as the Tigers handed Austin College its first loss of the season last Saturday.
