ABBY HOLLAND OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior forward from Georgetown, Texas, has been named SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday December 23 through Sunday, January 5. 

Holland led the 22nd-ranked Tiger women’s basketball team to a 4-0 start in SCAC play, winning three of the four games by at least 24 points. Holland averaged 18.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals per game over the break, despite playing an average of just 25.5 minutes per contest. She shot 59.3% (32-54) from the field for the four games as well. The conference schedule began with a road win over defending SCAC champion Texas Lutheran, during which Holland posted a season-best 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting. She added six rebounds and four steals in the Tiger win. Holland followed that with 17 points and nine rebounds in the next day’s win over Southwestern, then recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards in the SCAC home opener against St. Thomas. The weekend ended with Holland getting 21 points, four rebounds, three assists, and five steals in just 17 minutes of action against Centenary. This season, Holland is leading Trinity with 17.5 points/game and 6.3 rebounds/game, as well as recording 36 steals and dishing out 20 assists. 

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior forward Reagan Chiaverini of Austin College averaged 13.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 50 percent from the field, 75 percent from three point range and 100 percent from the free throw line as the ‘Roos improved to 11-0 on the season. Junior forward Bre Frierson of Centenary scored 71 points in four games for the Ladies, averaging 17.8 points per game and added 8.5 rebounds per contest. Junior forward McKenzee Gertz of Colorado College averaged a double-double with 19.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while leading the Tigers to 2-2 record over the holiday break. Freshman guard Madi Horne of Dallas led the Crusaders by averaging 18 points per game in two road contests last week for UD. Sophomore guard Katey Guzman of Johnson & Wales averaged 18.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to lead the Wildcats to a 2-2 record over the holiday break. Senior center Cecily Woolfolk of Southwestern led the Pirates during the last three contests averaging 17.3 points on 37.3 percent from the field. Senior forward Bresha Orange of St. Thomas scored in double-figures in all four of the Celts’ games over the break, averaging 14.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest. Sophomore forward Morgan Rodriguez of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record in SCAC play over the break, scoring in double figures in all three contests, averaging 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
